An Introduction from the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI) Various forms of terrorism have existed throughout history, but never before have terrorist organizations posed more of a grave and looming threat to our civilization. The attacks carried out against our nation on September 11, 2001, were a shocking and tragic wake-up call to all Americans that our nation is not immune to terrorism, but rather is a major target for those who seek to destroy freedom, democracy, and our very way of life. Although terrorist groups are based all across the globe, today’s greatest threats stem from terrorist groups that originated in or have ties to the Middle East.
